Timing & Cut Offs

Athens to Savannah is not a timed ride. Riders go at their own pace.

We want everyone to enjoy their ride and the destinations we visit along the way. We will do our best to allow all riders to finish each day at their own pace. But, safety is paramount. If riders are not on pace to finish the day safely before dark or due to other safety concerns, event staff may ask riders to dismount their bikes and allow the SAG to transport them to the next/final stop.

Bikes

Riders are free to choose any bike they want for the ride. E-bikes are allowed on the ride.

We offer bike transportation as an option for riders who would like to bring an extra bike. The cost is $100. Go to our registration page to reserve your space.

Support

Athens to Savannah is a fully supported ride and designed so that each rider will have plenty of on course support.

  • Aid stations will be on the course for both the road and gravel ride options, offering nutrition and hydration to all participants.
  • SAG vehicles will follow riders on both courses to provide transportation to cyclists who need a ride to the next rest stop.
  • Mechanical support will be available to riders.

Guidelines

Code of Conduct

Safety and respect for others are of utmost importance. We ask everyone to remember:

  • We behave with courtesy and respect at all times - with each other, drivers, pedestrians, and other users of the road.
  • We keep right and ride single file most of the time, except on quiet, low-traffic roads.
  • We pull to the right when cars are passing.
  • We do not ride more than two abreast.
  • We do not ride in the middle of the road or the left hand lane.
  • We do not usually do formal paceline-style riding, but we do endeavor to share the load of "pulling."
  • We call "car back" and "passing" when cars are approaching.
  • We signal our turns and changes of direction, including slowing down, stopping, pulling over, passing other riders.
  • We pass other riders on the left, unless a rider pulls out to the left to allow riders to pass on the right.
  • We call out road hazards including potholes, animals, gravel, debris.
  • We use hand signals and verbal calls for all of the above.
  • We heed traffic laws and signs.
