We're Building America's longest paved trail.
Georgia Hi-Lo Trail is a nonprofit 501(c)3 dedicated to driving opportunity and development to empower rural Georgia by connecting an eight-county region with America's longest trail.
Vision
When complete, the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail will connect two trail projects to form a 250-mile paved, road-separated path through small Georgia towns from Athens to Savannah.
The Firefly Trail begins in Athens. When complete it will cover a distance of 39 miles and end in Union Point.
The Georgia Hi-Lo Trail will connect to the Firefly Trail in Union Point and continue through a 211-mile stretch through rural Georgia before ending in Savannah.
When cconnected, these trails will form the longest paved trail in the United States.
Mission
We are on a mission to connect communities and empower rural Georgia.
Hi-Lo will connect people
Hi-Lo will connect places
Hi-Lo will connect possibilities
Paved trails create opportunities for economic development. Georgia Hi-Lo invests in the future of rural Georgia and drives opportunities for economic development by:
- laying ground work to bring fiber internet to under served areas
- generating development and business investment
- creating experience economies that end the brain drain
Trails like the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail have been proven to:
- Increase nearby property values
- Boost spending at local businesses
- Draw visitors to restaurants and retail, as well as hotels, bed and breakfasts and outdoor outfitters along longer trails
- Improve quality of life, making communities more attractive places to live
- Influence business investment and development
- Reduce medical costs by encouraging exercise and healthy outdoor activities
- Revitalize depressed areas
- Increase tax revenues in the communities where they are located
- Create opportunities for alternative transportation

We have worked with PATH Foundation, KAIZEN Collaborative and community partners throughout the eight-county region to finalize the route for the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail. The route depicted here could change, but it will connect Greene County, Hancock County, Washington County, Johnson County, Emanuel County, Bulloch County, Effingham County, and Chatham County, Georgia.

Programming
Learn about Georgia Hi-Lo Trail programs that promote our values, serve our communities and raise awareness for our mission to connect rural Georgia.
Stars aligned to bring Athens to Savannah Ride and Georgia Hi-Lo Trail together. We are thrilled to be stewards of this Georgia tradition and love nothing more than escorting cyclists from Athens to Savannah each October.
We made some updates to offer more options for riders, but kept all the fun!
The ride is our annual Hi-Lo fundraiser and biggest event of the year. We look forward to it all year, and can hardly wait for fall when we introduce cyclists to the region's unbeatable hospitality.
As we work to create the Hi-Lo Trail over the next 30 years, our Kids Bike League program serves Georgia kids now. Kids Bike League uses mountain biking as a tool to develop confidence and curiosity in our next generation of leaders.
Made possible by a grant from the Chestnut Family Foundation, Kids Bike League programming ensures children in the eight county Hi-Lo region have equal access to bikes, opportunities to ride and empowerment for growth.
Grants, donations and partners like BRAG Dream and Hub Bikes allow Kids Bike League programs to support monthly rides and camps throughout the eight-county area.
Thanks to our generous sponsors, all monthly ride days are free, and need-based scholarships are available for camps. Camps and ride days are open to the entire family, friends, and the community. All ages and abilities are welcome to join us as we explore trails and empower young riders.
Watch and learn from the kids, or go to Georgia Hi-Lo to learn more about Kids Bike League.
Trails aren't just for cyclists! Our Sandersville Sizzler 5K Trail Run offers another opportunity to get in on the fun, and this 1-loop course through a beautiful 300-acre wood makes it easy to participate, regardless of age or ability. Learn more on GeorgiaHiLo.com.
