The University of Georgia, R.E.M, Athens Twilight, Jittery Joe's Coffee. Athens is home to some of our favorite things. This exciting college town has been at the center of the ATHSAV brand since the very first Athens to Savannah Ride rollled out in 1999.

When you visit, plan to stay long enough to experience culture, creativity and energy like nowhere else! If you only do one thing, visit Jittery Joe's and grab some coffee to take home. We don't love them just because they are our BIGGEST Athens supporter. They also have the absolute best cup o' joe, and it's even better on those cold October mornings before we roll out!

Union Point is a part of the progress that will eventually connect to the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail. The development of the new Firefly Trail continued into Union Point when their mile was completed in January 2021. This biking and walking trail leading from Athens to Union Point will be a huge asset to the Union Point community, as well as part of the 250 mile trail that will become reality when the Firefly Trail and the proposed Georgia Hi-Lo Trail are each completed to form a single path from Athens to Savannah.

With help from a grant awarded by Fox Theatre Institute, Union Point has been working on the restoration of the 1940s movie theatre. The historic venue continues to be a project for the Downtown Development Authority and its volunteers. With the support of the Union Point community, the theatre also serves a rest stop for the annual Athens to Savannah Ride.

Midnight Run DistilleryMidnight Run Distillery

This rest stop is a favorite! Hosted at a small batch craft distillery that makes spirits from locally grown corn and wheat. Midnight Run Distillery makes their moonshine in a 200 gallon copper still.

Riders who can spare a few minutes out of the saddle are welcome to tour the facility, take pictures, sample the products and shop. Just leave the bag with our team, and we'll drive it to the next stop for you.

For those in a hurry to hop back on the bike or anyone who can't make it to Bartow, look for Midnight Run products at Atlanta Beverage Company in Atlanta and AB Beverage in Evans, Georgia. You can also learn more about Midnight Run Distillery on their website.
