It has been 25 years since Ken Sherman and Wallace Salter first rolled out of Athens in 1999. Since then, Athens to Savannah has grown the 2-day road ride to 3-days and added a 4-day gravel ride. Mileage has increased from 220 to 285 miles, and the road option offers a triple century, allowing the most ambitious riders to log 300 miles.
Cyclists are now fully supported by the event team, ride partners and local hosts, and more attention is given to off-the-bike experiences, including lodging, shuttles, and activities. And, we still work to offer a better experience. Take a look at some of what’s new for 2024.
Here’s a look at some of what’s new for 2024.
Lodging
We have worked with destination partners to add and improve camping and lodging options.
Athens: October 16-17
Visit Athens has helped coordinate room blocks with hotel partners near the Broad Street trailhead for the Firefly Trail. These properties are within biking distance of long-term parking at The Classic Center and the start line on the Firefly Trail.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer camping options in Athens this year. If you need help finding a place to park an RV, contact us, and we will try to help.
White Plains: October 17 (Gravel Only)
Room blocks for two hotels have been added in Greensboro for gravel cyclists finishing in White Plains. Both properties are accessible by shuttle from/to the finish/start in White Plains. A limited number of rooms are available again this year at Lundy Creek Lodge.
Tent camping and RV parking are available at Lundy Creek Lodge.
Tennille: October 18
A room block is available again this year at The Quality Inn.
Tent camping and RV parking are available on the property hosting the finish/start in Tennille.
Statesboro: October 19
A limited room block is available at the Hampton Inn. This property will be accessible by shuttle from/to the finish.
A list of other properties accessible by shuttle from/to the finish/start is available on our website. Due to increased demand because of the Georgia Southern University homecoming game on October 19th, we cannot secure additional room blocks in Statesboro. However, rooms are available at the listed properties at this time. Demand and rates will increase as we get closer to October. Book early.
Visit Statesboro is hosting RV parking and indoor camping at the Statesboro Farmers Market.
Savannah: October 20
We're still finalizing details for Savannah room blocks and will provide updates once they have been added to our website.

Notes on Camping
Camping and RV parking options are available for the stages ending in White Plains, Tennille, and Statesboro only.
Camp sites are space only. Campers should bring their own gear (tent, air mattress, etc.).
There are no hookups for RVs.
Bathroom and shower access will be provided. All meals will be included for campers.
All camp sites are located at finish/start areas, and additional transportation will not be needed.
Shuttles
Bag Transport & Start/Finish Shuttles
We are working with Topper Worldwide to provide professionally trained chauffeurs and mini coaches that will transport cyclists and their gear. The shuttle is included in registration and will be used to transport bags from the start to the finish each day. The shuttle will also be available to cyclists when lodging partners are out of riding distance.
Post-Ride Shuttle from Savannah to Athens
Topper Worldwide will also provide services for the optional post-ride shuttle from Savannah to Athens. Bikes will be transported separately by Howard Sheppard and scheduled to arrive with the shuttle. The cost is $150. Space is limited. Book early.
Pre-Ride Shuttle from Savannah to Athens
At this time, we are not offering a pre-ride shuttle from Savannah to Athens. However, if there is enough interest, we will consider adding it.

Bike Shipping
We are partnering with BikeFlights and The HUB Bicycles to offer bike shipping and assembly. Cyclists can rely on trusted professionals to ship, receive, assemble, tune-up, and deliver bikes before the ride and then handle returning bikes after the ride.
