Nutrition & Hydration

Nutrition

We will work with host destinations to provide riders breakfast and snacks at rest stops daily. Hosts will offer a variety of items that will vary from stop to stop. Mid-day stops will have some heavier items for those who want to stop for lunch.

In addition to what our hosts offer, we will try to have the basics at most stops, including bananas, potato chips, trail mix, pickles, peanut butter & jelly, sodas, bars, gels.

Hydration

Water will be provided at all start, finish and rest stop locations for cyclists to refill bottles and packs.

If riders have specific needs, they should plan to carry their own nutrition during each day’s ride.

Outside Support

Outside support, including family and friends driving along the route, can use Ride with GPS to map routes and coordinate with riders.

SAG Vehicles

SAG vehicles will be on course to provide transportation to riders who need a ride to the next rest stop.

Their primary function will be to assist cyclists who cannot continue the ride because of mechanical failure, flat tires, or exhaustion. Riders will be given a number to call before the stage each day. If you need to signal a SAG vehicle, please call your contact. To wave someone down, please follow these steps:

  1. Move safely off the road and well out of the path of other riders and vehicles
  2. Dismount and stand near your bike
  3. Remove your helmet and wave it at the SAG vehicle

Mechanical Support

Mechanical Support will be provided by The Hub Bicycles. Their team will be equipped to provide basic support needs.

Please keep in mind, they will not have space to offer a rolling bike shop with every type of disc brake pad, battery, etc. While they will provide basic support, they also suggest riders come prepared with the following items.

  • Extra brake pads (2-3 sets for gravel riders, as wet gravel can ruin brake pads)
  • Chain
  • Extra battery for electronic shifting bikes
  • Rear derailleur hanger
  • Tubes, or tubeless flat fix equipment

Basic repairs and tubes will be covered by the Athens to Savannah Ride. In case of a major mechanical that may require replacing a part, riders will work directly with The Hub Bicycles.

Bike Wash

Bike wash will be available at the finish.

Massage

Post-ride massages will be offered by Chase Preston-White, LMT.

Medical Support

Dr. Earl Taylor will provide medical support on the ride.
