We all know time flies, and we will be lining up for the Athens To Savannah Ride before we know it. Here are two things you can do now to get ready!

Go Get a Bike Fit

If you have never had a bike fit, get one.

When your body is optimized for your bicycle, you will enjoy the ride a whole lot more. Comfort is speed and prevents pain and injury.

If you are new to cycling, or coming back to the sport, be aware that your body adapts. Muscles lengthen and strengthen, so you will out ride your initial bike fit. Same for if you have lost fat and/or gained muscle. If it has been a while since you have ridden your bicycle, head  into your local bike shop and be re-fitted.

In order for you to feel one with your bike, you must have your bike adjusted to fit your body. This means more than saddle height. It includes handlebar width & drop & shape, stem length & angle, saddle, bike seat post angle. All of these can be changed to match up with your body and mobility to improve your cycling comfort.

Schedule a Tune Up

If you have regularly maintained your bike, then it is best to schedule your tune up the week of the ride. That is when you will be be resting more than riding. Call ahead now, and get an appointment for the week of October 16th. Depending on your travel schedule for ATHSAV and whether you are flying with or shipping your bike to Athens, your appointment may need to be scheduled earlier or with an Athens shop after you arrive.

If it has been a while since your last tune up, call your local bike shop now, and make an appointment. If only a routine service is needed, ask for a time when they can turn it around in a day. This will ensure preparation is not interrupted, and you can prevent a potential mechanical while training.
